The Center for Prevention of Abuse has received a $20,000 donation from CEFCU to help fund the continuance of Prevention Education programming in Peoria Public Schools (PPS). The gift is an annual donation to provide violence prevention education to students in grades pre-kindergarten through twelfth in Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties.
“We are very pleased to accept this donation from CEFCU and thankful for their continued support of our prevention education program,” said Carol Merna, Executive Director of The Center for Prevention of Abuse. “This funding allows us to continue our important work in the classroom connecting with young people and teaching them how to build healthy personal relationships, contributing toward a safer and healthier community.”
The Center for Prevention of Abuse provides prevention education programming in 105 schools and reaches about 30,000 students each year in the Peoria Area.
“Since 1993, CEFCU has been proud to support The Center for Prevention of Abuse,” said Janá Stevens, CEFCU Vice President of Marketing. “The Credit Union strongly believes in the life-changing work that takes place at The Center every day.  Their mission to help all people – women, men, and children – live free from violence and abuse, goes hand in hand with the credit union philosophy of ‘people helping people.’  And, CEFCU is proud to partner with The Center for Prevention of Abuse in furthering their mission.”
All curriculum is comprehensive, age-appropriate and meets legislative requirements addressing child sexual abuse, social and emotional learning, bullying, teen dating violence, body safety, and general school safety concerns.
“The Center for Prevention of Abuse does an outstanding job in helping us meet this required State mandate, but more so is an additional layer to our Social and Emotional Learning team and the important work that our district is doing to provide needed resources to students and families,” said PPS Superintendent Dr. Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat. “We are so thankful for businesses like CEFCU that understand and want to support this important work to make our community a better place to live, work and learn.”
