DESCRIPTION:Vaccination is credited as one of the most successful public health initiatives ever\, yet the growth of vaccine hesitancy is now identified as one of the top 10 threats to global health in 2019 by the World Health Organization.  \n\n \n\nJoin Chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and published author Gary S. Marshall\, MD as he discusses the modern history of vaccinations\, technological revolutions and what lies ahead. Marshall is Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and is author of "The Vaccine Handbook: A Practical Guide for Clinicians" (also known as "The Purple Book\,") now in its 7th edition and available through an app. \n\n\n\nFree and open to the public\, the event is presented as part of the Hart Endowed Lectureship and sponsored by the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria and Children's Hospital of Illinois.  \n\n \n\nThe Robert D. Hart\, MD Endowed Lectureship was established in 2002 to honor the late Dr. Hart for his distinguished medical career as a pediatrician. Income from this fund enables prominent scholars to enhance training and education of medical students\, residents\, practicing physicians\, and the community.  \n\n \n\nThe University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP) educates 244 medical students and nearly 300 physician residents annually.
